The death of Egyptian political left leader Rifaat al-Saeed

The leader of the Egyptian political left, the head of the consultative council of the Progressive National Progressive Party, and the party's former leader, 84, died at his home in Cairo.

Al-Saeed was a member appointed by a decision of former President Hosni Mubarak in the Shura Council, one of the two houses of parliament, before it was canceled in the current constitution, which was approved by voters in 2014.

Said was one of the most prominent Egyptian politicians opposed to the Muslim Brotherhood, which ruled after the 2011 uprising that toppled Mubarak and then ousted in 2013 following the popular protests.
