The Elysee gives the wife of the French president an official role

The French president's wife, Brigitte Macron, has been given an official role, according to the French presidential website, which explained that this role is not linked to any specific budget.

Sources close to Brigitte Macron said the role "is not a legal situation but an obligation that applies only to Brigitte Macaron and to Emmanuel Macaron's term."

The decision may face protests, especially since 200,000 Frenchmen signed in August a petition against Macaron's plans to grant his wife the title of First Lady.

They say this will give them the right to seek help and receive state budget allocations.

The first lady in France is not as formal as in the United States, but Macron said during his campaign that he would propose to give his wife an official role, even if it was free.
