Rami Makhlouf is ready to compromise with the Syrian government

Egyptian News Vision: - Syrian businessman Rami Makhlouf, the cousin of the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, has been one of the economic pillars in the country for decades.

Rami Makhlouf said that he is at risk of being arrested by the Syrian government if he does not pay 50 percent of the profits of his telecommunications company.

Rami Makhlouf said these statements during a live broadcast on Facebook, and he said that the Syrian government wants to confiscate "Syriatel", the largest telecommunications company in Syria.

The Syrian authorities had confiscated the "Al-Bustan Association" headed by Rami Makhlouf, which formed the "human front" for his work during the war years, and armed groups linked to it also dissolved, which sparked the dispute between the two sides in 2019.

In December 2019, the government issued a series of decisions to reserve the movable and immovable funds of a number of businessmen, including Rami, his wife, and his companies.

This was because they were charged with tax evasion and unlawful profits during the 2011 war.

He said that the authorities are asking "Syriatel" to pay 185 million dollars, asking Assad to intervene and reschedule.

Makhlouf, who owns stakes in the electricity, oil and real estate sectors, accused the security services of detaining his employees to intimidate him and force him to abandon his actions.

Makhlouf expressed his willingness to pay the amount, but assured that he will not resign from the chairmanship of "Syriatel".

"Whoever thinks that I will resign under these circumstances does not know me," he said.
