Tel Aviv, Manama, Ankara, Daily Times: - Coinciding with the Palestinians ’distaste for Land Day, the Kingdom of Bahrain chose to announce a decision to open an embassy in Tel Aviv, and Turkey chose to return its ambassador to Israel.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, informed his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, of the Bahraini government's decision to open an embassy in Israel and requested his approval to appoint the ambassador, Khaled Youssef Al-Jalahma, as head of the diplomatic mission in Israel according to a decree issued by the Bahraini monarch, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
This was during a phone call made by the Bahraini minister with his Israeli counterpart.
Ashkenazi welcomed the decision of the Kingdom of Bahrain and thanked his counterpart for his courageous friendship, as well as for the courage and leadership of the King of Bahrain.
The Israeli newspaper "Israel Hayom" also quoted a Turkish official as saying that Turkey had conveyed a message to Israel that it was ready to send an ambassador to Israel, and that Israel pledged to send an ambassador to Turkey. The newspaper reported that the main dispute still exists between the two countries, which is the presence of Hamas leaders in Istanbul.
