Lack of this vitamin in the body leads to erectile dysfunction

A recent Italian study found that low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of erectile dysfunction in men.

When the researchers tested 143 men with different degrees of erectile dysfunction, they found that about half of them had vitamin D deficiency, and that one in five had optimal levels of nutrients in their body.

The researchers found that men with severe ED had lower levels of vitamin D by about 24 percent compared with those with milder disease.

The author of the study, Alessandra Barassi, and her research team, explained that insufficient levels of this vitamin can stimulate the production of free radicals called super ions.

These free radicals drain nitric oxide, which helps the blood vessels to function properly.
