Vision Egypt News: - Awaiting official confirmation, news coming from the stronghold of al-Qaeda stated that Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s successor, died at the age of 69, according to informed sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

At least 4 security sources in Pakistan and Afghanistan said that Ayman Al-Zawahiri died under normal circumstances on Friday 20 November 2020.

Al-Zawahiri's last appearance in 2020 was a video message commemorating the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

If the news of Ayman al-Zawahiri’s death is confirmed, this creates a deep void in al-Qaeda’s leadership, as at least two of the most senior commanders were recently killed, who were likely to be in line to replace him.

According to a United Nations report on the activities of terrorist groups from around the world released in July 2020, Al-Qaeda was operating secretly in 12 Afghan provinces and its leader, Al-Zawahiri, remained stationed in Afghanistan.
