American James Allison and Japan's Tasuko Hongo win the 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, James Allison of the University of Texas and Japan's Tasuko Hongo of Kyoto University won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2018 for discovering new ways to treat cancer. Allison and Hongo will receive about $ 1 million under the award.

The 2018 Nobel season kicked off Monday with the Medical Award, but this year will not include a reward for literature after being postponed for the first time since 1949.

For the first time since 1949, it was decided to award prizes that will be announced next year in conjunction with the Nobel Literature 2019.
