The release of the heir of the Samsung Jaiyi Group

South Korea, Businessmen, Samsung's successor, Jay Wye Lee, who was jailed in South Korea, was released after a panel of judges made a surprise decision to suspend his sentence.

The High Court of Seoul sentenced Jay Wye to two and a half years in prison for charges including bribery and embezzlement, which reduced his sentence by half, but suspended the sentence for four years, meaning he would not remain in custody.

Lee, 49, the heir to one of the world's largest economic empires, has been held since February 2017.

On his release from Seoul detention center, he apologized for not showing "the best aspect of his personality," adding that he "has spent precious time over the past year in self-reflection," Reuters reported.
