Earthquake in Japan

Earthquake hit western Japan early Monday, the US Geological Survey said the magnitude of the earthquake, which was not deep, was 5.6 degrees.

But Japan's Meteorological Agency said it was 6.1. The quake hit west of the Greater Honshu Island at 1:32 am Monday (16:32 am GMT) 96 km north of Hiroshima. The agency called on the population to be vigilant.

The quake wounded five people and damaged buildings and roads, while officials warned of stronger tremors that could occur in the coming days.
