North Korea has said it may withdraw from the summit with US President Donald Trump if the United States insists Pyongyang abandon its nuclear weapons.
North Korea has not seen Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi abandon his nuclear program as a prelude to invading the west of his country before he was captured and killed by insurgents backed by Western countries.
"If we are surrounded by the United States and unilaterally called for our nuclear disarmament, we will have no desire to negotiate," North Korea's deputy foreign minister said in a statement broadcast by the state media. "We will have to reconsider" June in Singapore.
"North Korea has many hopes," he said, "but it is unfortunate that the United States is provoking us ahead of the summit by uttering these ridiculous statements."
