Historic referendum on constitutional amendment in Ireland

Irish women have the right to carry out abortions after a historic referendum on a constitutional amendment lifting the strict restrictions on abortion since 1983.

According to a poll conducted by the Ipsos / MBI Institute for the Irish Times on a sample of 4,000 respondents who cast their ballots in 160 polling stations across the country, 68 percent of voters voted yes, compared with 32 percent who voted "no" .

A second poll conducted by the Institute for Public Television and Television (RTA) on a sample of 3,800 voters showed that 69.4 percent of the voters voted yes, compared to 30.6 percent who voted "no".
