“Tozeur was and will remain the first destination for Filmmakers from Tunisian and abroad”.
It was in these terms that Salah Mtiraoui started his allocation when expressing his great happiness to see Tozeur becoming the Capital of Cinema, highlighting in the same framework the importance of such a festival to improve the various sectors, mainly tourism, trade and transport which will make the economy in the region flourish. Tozeur remains one of the best destinations in the world for filmmakers where very famous films were shot, namely “Star Wars, La Casa De Pappel, La Promesas De Arena”.
The Festival also unrolled his Red Carpet for its prestigious guests varying between Stars of the cinema and filmmakers from Tunisia and various countries from the world. Among them: Fethi Haddaoui, Najla Ben Abdallah, Mohamed Ali Ben Jomaa, Mohamed Ali Nahdi, Sara Hannechi, Ibaa Hamli …
During this opening ceremony, Hamida Mrabet President of the TOIFF praised the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to this event, while thanking all those who contributed to its organization, including the City of Culture and the Association of “Les Amis du Jérid”, for their considerable efforts in the organization of this event.
For his part Abderrazzak Chraiet, Honorary President of Tozeur International Film Festival and founding member of the Association “Les Amis du Jérid” said that this association supports all the events that aim to make Tozeur more known abroad adding that this first session will probably be limited regarding the limited means, but it will probably get improved over time to establish itself as an important Cinematographic meeting.
The official competition of this festival will have three awards to offer namely: The Golden Scorpion for the best long feature fiction film, the Golden Scorpion for the best documentary feature film and the Golden Scorpion for the best short film.
