The Bureau of Investigation and Analysis of the Civil Aviation Authority said in a tweet that the helicopter, an AS350 Squirrel, crashed "upon taking off from a private plot of land."
French President Emmanuel Macron said in a tweet, "Olivier Dassault loved France. He is an industrial magnate, a legislator, an elected local official and a reserve commander in the Air Force ... throughout his life he never stopped serving our country and maximizing its assets. His sudden death is a huge loss. Our minds and our hearts are with his family and loved ones."
Dassault, 69, is the eldest son of industrialist and billionaire Serge Dassault, whose company produces Rafale fighter jets and owns "Le Figaro" newspaper.
