Egypt chairs the African Union Organization

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates:- Egypt has taken over the presidency of the African Union to Egypt, and will transfer the presidency of the organization from Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

This is the first time Egypt has presided over an African organization that was created in 2002 and had suspended its membership after the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood six years ago.

Egypt will be more concerned with security and economic issues.

The Rwandan president has been seeking a continent-wide import tax to finance the African Union and reduce its dependence on external donors, who still pay more than half of the organization's annual budget.

Sissi heads the African summit on February 10-11 at the African Union headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
