Dubai United Arab Emirates:- Bahrain and the UAE decided to significantly reduce the financial support they provide to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), as in 2019, $ 51 million was transferred, while only $ 1 million was transferred in 2020.

This reduction in Gulf support for UNRWA is closely related to the Abraham agreements that Gulf states have signed with Israel in one form or another.

If the reduction in the UNRWA budget was not at the unannounced request of Israel from the countries that signed a peace agreement and normalization with it, then it may be a retaliatory step from the UAE and Bahrain for Palestinian accusations of high treason after their normalization with Tel Aviv.

In 2018 alone, the United Arab Emirates contributed $ 53 million, and a year later the volume of contributions reached $ 51 million. A year later, in 2020 the budget was only one million dollars.

The signing of the agreements sparked great anger among the Palestinian leadership, as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned this step and considered it a "betrayal of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Arab peace initiative," and ordered the immediate return of the Palestinian ambassadors from the UAE and Bahrain.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, UNRWA, expressed its hope that the United States would resume its funding, which it stopped in 2018, but confirmed that this would not be sufficient to cover its budget deficit for 2021, and the Trump administration stopped funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in 2018, and its contribution was close to $ 365 million annually.

UNRWA started this year with previous commitments of the year 2020 worth 75 million dollars that it must cover, with its expectation of a deficit of more than 200 million dollars for the current year. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philip Lazzarini warned last November of the "worst financial crisis" in the history of the agency that may lead to A "disaster" in the Gaza Strip and an increase in "instability" in Lebanon.
