The world will witness a global increase in the number of cancer patients by 60% in the next two decades, with the World Health Organization recording in 2018, 18.1 million new cancer cases worldwide.

The organization expects the figure to reach between 29 and 37 million cases by 2040.

The number of new cases of cancer will increase further in low- and middle-income countries (+ 81%, according to estimates).

The organization pointed out that the main reason for this is that these countries have devoted only limited health resources to fighting infectious diseases and improving maternal and child health, and because health services in these countries are not equipped to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
