The original date of the flight, on the last weekend of October 2021, was postponed several times, once due to bad weather, and another due to a "small medical problem" for one of the crew members.
In the event of the launch of the flight, Maurer will be the first German astronaut to return to space in three years, the twelfth German in the history of space flights, the fourth German to reside on the International Space Station and the first German to go into space, accompanied by the Dragon crew.
The Dragon capsule was developed by Elon Musk's private company, SpaceX.
The astronauts will conduct experiments at an altitude of about 400 km over a period of six months - in addition to completing a field mission, the last German astronaut to travel into space was Alexander Gerst, in 2018.
