fort royale
Located right on Île Sainte-Marguerite, Fort Royal is ideally located on the coast. He is best known as the prison that imprisoned the Man in the Iron Mask in the 17th century.
The identity of the prisoner was not revealed and he died as an unknown man.
Today, this prison houses a museum displaying items recovered from shipwrecks and other parts of the area.
The island is a short boat ride from Cannes.
Palace of Festivals in Cannes
The Palais des Festivals de Cannes, a center of cinematic activity, is held here in May of the famous Cannes Film Festival.
Unfortunately, actual film festivals are not open to the public, and only movie stars and other invited guests can attend.
However, for those who are willing to go early in the morning, it is possible to see the celebrities from below the steps.
To watch the movies, the public can head to Macé Beach where people are allowed in for free.
On the side of the Palais des Festivals, celebrity handprints have been placed on the sidewalk in films shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
Le Suquet
Le Suquet is the oldest neighborhood in Cannes and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Cannes.
Stroll the streets and admire the light-coloured buildings that have stood since the 18th and 19th centuries.
Originally a Roman settlement, the neighborhood is today a maze of narrow, steep streets and family restaurants, so take your time to wander around and explore this beautiful neighborhood.
Here, you'll also find a medieval castle, one of Cannes' tourist attractions.
