Aid organizations may face Italian sanctions for rescuing migrants from drowning

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates:- Non-governmental relief organizations will face financial sanctions by the Italian government if they issue a new decree under which they will be fined for each person who saves them from drowning in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and bringing them to Italian territory.

The fine for each immigrant ranged between 3,500 and 5500 euros.

Aid organizations considered that the decree made by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini was a declaration of war against it, which seeks to save lives at sea.

The bill includes suspending the license granted to relief organizations for a period ranging from one month to one year.

Claudia Lodizani, Italy's representative in Italy, said the new decree threatens the life-saving mission, likening fines to ambulances simply for transporting patients to hospitals.
